UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Highlights Emirati Women’s Day Achievements

His Excellency Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, emphasized the vital role of Emirati women in the nation’s progress, marking Emirati Women’s Day 2025 as a celebration of groundbreaking achievements made possible under the UAE’s visionary leadership.

H.E. underscored that Emirati women have been instrumental in nurturing future generations, strengthening national identity, and reinforcing community values. He also praised the accomplishments of Emirati women leaders on the global stage, citing the historic appointment of Shaikha Al Nowais as the first woman Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization — a milestone reflecting the UAE’s global leadership in women’s empowerment.

This year’s celebration, themed “Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years”, carries profound national and humanitarian significance. H.E. noted that it reflects the UAE’s collaborative model of supporting Emirati women, bolstered by the tireless efforts of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union and “Mother of the Nation.”

Highlighting women’s growing role in the economy, H.E. revealed that as of July 2025, 128,482 commercial licenses are held by Emirati women, representing a 15% rise from July 2024 and a 155% increase compared to July 2020. These businesses span sectors including e-commerce, tourism, technology, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and sports.

H.E. also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting women in business through progressive policies. A recent decision requires private shareholding companies to allocate at least one board seat for women, a move designed to boost gender diversity, enhance competitiveness, and strengthen the UAE’s position in global rankings.
