UAE Highlights Legislative Enhancements for Intellectual Property Rights Protection at Belt and Road Conference

The UAE showcased its efforts to enhance its intellectual property (IP) rights protection framework at the third Belt and Road High-Level Conference on Intellectual Property in Beijing. The event, inaugurated by H.E. Ding Xuexiang, Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China, attracted over 450 participants, including government representatives from 55 countries and international organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Representing the UAE, H.E. Dr. Abdulrahman Hassan Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Sector at the Ministry of Economy, emphasized the importance of IP in fostering economic growth and innovation. He reiterated the UAE's commitment to supporting global efforts to protect IP rights and promote creativity, in alignment with the We the UAE 2031 vision.

Dr. Al Muaini highlighted the UAE's recent amendments to laws regulating industrial property rights, trademarks, and copyright, which aim to strengthen the country's position as a regional hub for innovation and intellectual property protection. He underscored IP’s role in driving sustainable development, especially in critical sectors like clean technology, health, and education.

The conference, themed Openness, Cooperation, Development, and Mutual Benefit, encouraged stronger IP cooperation along the Belt and Road, contributing to global peace and economic prosperity. Attendees called for mutual recognition of IP, enhanced protection for geographical indicators, and a focus on IP in e-commerce and data, with the goal of fostering an innovation-driven environment.
