The UAE and Canada are exploring new avenues to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology, underscoring their shared commitment to driving innovation-led economic growth.

His Excellency Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, met with The Honourable Evan Solomon, Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister of Federal Economic Development for Southern Ontario, during an official Canadian delegation’s visit to the UAE.

The meeting focused on expanding collaboration across advanced technology and AI sectors, with both sides emphasizing the importance of fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors to accelerate digital transformation and economic diversification.

H.E. Bin Touq highlighted that the UAE and Canada share a robust economic relationship spanning multiple vital sectors. He noted that both countries recognize AI, innovation, and advanced technology as key enablers of the new economy, paving the way for deeper cooperation in these strategic areas.

The Minister reviewed several national initiatives undertaken by the UAE to promote AI integration across economic sectors, reinforcing the country’s position as a global hub for innovation and the new economy. Among these initiatives is the Future 100 program, designed to support startups and entrepreneurial ventures in emerging industries.

He also showcased the National Economic Registry (Growth) — a federal digital platform powered by AI and managed by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism. The platform offers a comprehensive database that enables investors, companies, and entrepreneurs to explore the UAE’s business environment across more than 2,000 economic activities, helping them analyze markets and make informed business decisions.

During the discussions, both sides explored opportunities to collaborate on sustainable digital solutions that enhance business competitiveness in both nations. They also addressed the exchange of expertise in developing regulatory frameworks for responsible AI and integrating its applications into sectors such as tourism, entrepreneurship, and aviation.

Additionally, the ministers discussed expanding investment opportunities and fostering partnerships between Emirati and Canadian technology companies. They also emphasized the importance of joint research and development (R&D) initiatives to create advanced technological solutions that can drive future economic growth.

The meeting reaffirmed the UAE and Canada’s mutual commitment to advancing innovation, strengthening bilateral economic ties, and shaping a sustainable digital economy built on trust, collaboration, and forward-thinking policies.
