Top UAE Diplomat Calls for Just Peace Amid Ongoing Gaza Conflict

Dr. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the President of the UAE, has called for a renewed political approach to achieving peace in the Middle East, emphasizing that any resolution must be rooted in justice, sovereignty, and long-term stability.

Speaking on the social media platform X, Dr. Gargash stated, “We need a political horizon that respects sovereignty, lays the foundation for a sustainable peace based on justice, and achieves the desired stability and prosperity.”

His remarks come as diplomatic efforts intensify to secure a ceasefire in the nearly 21-month-long war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The Palestinian group has reportedly shown a "positive spirit" in responding to a US-brokered ceasefire proposal, which includes hostage releases and negotiations aimed at ending the conflict. US President Donald Trump confirmed that Israel has agreed to the conditions required to finalize a 60-day ceasefire agreement.

'Wounds Are Open'

Reflecting on the broader situation in the region, Dr. Gargash described the Middle East as one still in turmoil. “The region remains in crisis, its wounds are open, and the winds of confrontation are blowing from all directions,” he said, reinforcing the UAE’s long-standing call for diplomacy over military solutions.

He warned against the reliance on armed conflict, asserting that a military path will not bring lasting peace. Instead, he advocated for dialogue led by Middle Eastern countries themselves to navigate out of the current crises.

Upholding Sovereignty and Stability

Dr. Gargash underscored the importance of state sovereignty and strong institutions, warning against the consequences of weakened governance, ideological dominance, and the role of militias in determining the fate of nations.

He added that the region has paid a heavy price due to these factors, calling for a collective move toward governance that can foster lasting stability and economic growth.

Regional Diplomatic Engagement

In a related development, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently met with Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid in Abu Dhabi to discuss international efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the UAE’s active diplomatic role in regional peace efforts.

The UAE continues to advocate for a comprehensive and fair resolution to the Middle East crisis, supporting multilateral initiatives aimed at restoring peace and upholding human dignity across the region.
