TAQA Energy Services and Sdeira Group launch major building retrofit project at Aryam ICAD Residential City
TAQA Energy Services, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), has partnered with Sdeira Group, part of AD Ports Group, to launch one of Abu Dhabi’s largest building retrofit initiatives aimed at improving energy and water efficiency at Aryam ICAD Residential City in Mussafah. The implementation agreement was formalised during ADIPEC 2025 by Khalid Al Qubaisi, CEO of TAQA Energy Services, and Abdulaziz A. Bawazeer, CEO of Sdeira Group.
The 14-month project is among the most extensive retrofits undertaken for a residential service sector development in the Emirate. It supports Abu Dhabi’s broader sustainability agenda, including the Abu Dhabi Energy & Water Efficiency Strategy 2030 and the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 initiative.
Under the partnership, TAQA Energy Services will upgrade HVAC systems, introduce advanced energy monitoring and control solutions, and deploy water-saving technologies across eight building clusters that include residential compounds and a shopping mall. These enhancements aim to reduce consumption, improve operational performance, and elevate the living standards for more than 58,000 residents.
The project is expected to generate significant environmental and economic impact, including an estimated annual reduction of 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions and AED 12 million in savings, which will be reinvested to support continuous improvements. Additionally, annual electricity consumption is projected to decrease by 36 gigawatt-hours, water usage by more than 616,000 cubic metres, and emissions reduced by an amount comparable to the carbon absorption of over 250,000 tree seedlings grown for ten years.
Executives from both organisations emphasised the importance of the collaboration. Al Qubaisi said the initiative reinforces TAQA’s commitment to delivering future-ready and efficient infrastructure, while Bawazeer highlighted its role in enhancing the living environment and supporting sustainable community development.
Aryam ICAD Residential City, operated by Eskan, plays a key role in Abu Dhabi’s urban planning landscape. Its transformation is expected to serve as a model for sustainable, resilient and high-efficiency residential communities.
