SLC Secretary General H.E. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi Marks International Translation Day 2024
On the occasion of International Translation Day 2024, H.E. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC), has emphasized the pivotal role of translation in fostering global dialogue, cooperation, and cultural exchange. International Translation Day, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, recognizes translation as an essential tool in promoting knowledge sharing and supporting cultural diversity.
In his statement, H.E. bin Meshar Al Muhairi highlighted the UAE’s leadership in championing global translation efforts, pointing to initiatives such as the ‘Kalima’ project, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the ‘Translation Challenge’ spearheaded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. These projects aim to enrich the Arabic literary world and bridge educational gaps in the Arab region through the translation of global literary masterpieces and educational content.
Reflecting on the importance of translation within the legal sector, H.E. bin Meshar Al Muhairi underscored the SLC’s commitment to leveraging translation to enhance Dubai's legislative framework. He noted that translation plays a key role in aligning local legislation with global advancements, while facilitating the exchange of legal expertise between professionals worldwide.
The SLC Secretary General extended his congratulations to translators across the globe, acknowledging their vital contribution to cross-cultural communication and understanding.
