SLC Organises “Arabic Coffee” Seminar to Celebrate World Arabic Language Day 2025

In celebration of World Arabic Language Day, observed globally on 18 December, the General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) organised a cultural seminar titled “Arabic Coffee.” The event highlighted the deep connection between the Arabic language and different aspects of Emirati society, as well as its central role in the UAE’s legislative ecosystem.

Held in collaboration with the Community Development Authority and attended by representatives from several Dubai government entities, the seminar drew strong participation from the local community, reflecting growing interest in preserving the Arabic language as a cornerstone of cultural and national identity.

Presented by Mr. Salem Ibrahim Al Ahmad, Linguistic Adviser and Head of the Research and Publications Section at the SLC, the seminar underscored the organisation’s ongoing commitment to promoting and safeguarding the Arabic language. Discussions explored multiple themes, including the relationship between Arabic and national identity, the language’s significance in legislative discourse, the UAE’s national efforts to promote Arabic, and the coexistence of Classical Arabic and regional dialects.

Reinforcing the Arabic Language as a Pillar of National Identity

H.E. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the SLC, affirmed the importance of World Arabic Language Day as a global platform to celebrate the richness and influence of the Arabic language:

“World Arabic Language Day is an occasion to honour our noble language and celebrate its civilisational depth and historical legacy. It reminds us of Arabic’s vital role in scientific, intellectual, and cultural progress and its enduring contribution to human civilisation.”

He added that the UAE, guided by its wise leadership, continues to play a pioneering role in strengthening the Arabic language’s presence in education, culture, and governance:

“The UAE remains committed to empowering Arabic as a language of knowledge and thought. Its adaptability in an era of rapid change demonstrates its richness and flexibility. At the SLC, we uphold linguistic integrity and precision in legislative drafting and actively promote awareness initiatives that enhance the standing of our mother tongue.”

Supporting National and Community Initiatives

The “Arabic Coffee” seminar aligns with the SLC’s strategic plan to foster a legislative ecosystem grounded in knowledge, culture, and national identity. It also supports the objectives of “Dubai Social Agenda 33”, particularly those related to preserving national identity, strengthening community engagement, and promoting cultural vitality.

Additionally, the event complements the initiatives of the “Year of the Community” and the “Year of the Family”, underscoring the role of the Arabic language in fostering communication, dialogue, and unity within families and society.

Through such initiatives, the SLC continues to affirm its social responsibility, encouraging collective efforts to strengthen the presence of Arabic in public life and ensure its continued role as a bridge between the UAE’s proud heritage and its forward-looking aspirations.
