Minor Earthquake Recorded South of Musandam; Second Tremor Hits Near Oman’s Masirah Island
A minor earthquake was recorded south of Musandam on Saturday morning, according to the National Seismic Network of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
The tremor, which measured 2.2 on the Richter scale, occurred at 10:43 am UAE time and was described as too weak to cause any damage or disruption. No tremors were reported as being felt in the northern parts of the UAE.
Meanwhile, a separate 2.6-magnitude earthquake was detected 97 km southwest of Masirah Island in Oman at 3:03 am local time, according to the Earthquake Monitoring Center at Sultan Qaboos University. The quake struck at a shallow depth of 12 km, making it a typical minor offshore seismic event.
Authorities in both countries confirmed that no casualties, structural damage, or service interruptions were recorded. Experts classified both tremors as low-intensity and naturally occurring, part of the region’s occasional minor seismic activity that poses no threat to residents.
