Kia Unveils PV5 Electric Platform Beyond Vehicle in Middle East and Africa

Kia Middle East & Africa has officially unveiled the Kia PV5, the brand's first Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) model, marking its regional debut at Dubai's Museum of the Future.

The launch represents a significant milestone in Kia’s future mobility strategy, introducing a purpose-built electric vehicle platform designed to serve a wide range of passenger, commercial, and specialized transportation needs across the Middle East and Africa.

As Kia’s first dedicated PBV model, the PV5 combines electric mobility, modular design, advanced connectivity, and customizable configurations to support businesses, fleet operators, public sector organizations, and individual users.

New Mobility Platform for a Changing Transportation Landscape

The Kia PV5 has been developed as a fully electric mobility solution capable of adapting to evolving transportation demands. Built on a flexible modular architecture, the vehicle allows customers to choose configurations tailored to their operational requirements.

During the regional unveiling in Dubai, Kia showcased six distinct PV5 applications, demonstrating the platform’s versatility across multiple sectors.

These included:

  • PV5 Passenger
  • PV5 Cargo
  • PV5 Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV)
  • PV5 Prime Edition luxury conversion
  • PV5 Drop Side commercial solution
  • PV5 Chassis-Cab specialized applications

The diverse lineup highlights Kia’s ambition to create an integrated mobility ecosystem capable of serving passenger transport, logistics, hospitality, accessibility, and commercial industries.

Kia Highlights Vision for Future Mobility

Commenting on the launch, Ahmed Soudodi, Vice President for Kia Middle East & Africa, described the PV5 as a major advancement in Kia’s mobility transformation journey.

He noted that the vehicle reflects the company's commitment to delivering innovative mobility solutions that respond to the changing requirements of customers and businesses while combining flexibility, advanced technology, and sustainable electric transportation.

According to Soudodi, the introduction of the PV5 opens new possibilities for how people move, work, and connect throughout the region.

PV5 Passenger Targets Urban Mobility and Shuttle Services

The PV5 Passenger variant has been designed for a broad range of mobility applications, including:

  • Private transportation
  • Ride-hailing services
  • Corporate transportation
  • Hotel shuttles
  • Car-sharing platforms

The model features a spacious cabin layout, sliding doors for easier access, and generous luggage capacity. Its quiet electric powertrain and flexible interior configuration make it suitable for both personal and professional transportation requirements.

PV5 Cargo Supports Growing Logistics Demand

The PV5 Cargo has been engineered to address increasing demand from logistics operators, small and medium-sized enterprises, utility providers, and delivery fleets.

The vehicle offers up to 4.42 cubic metres of cargo space, complemented by a low loading height and practical loading access designed to improve operational efficiency.

For businesses requiring extended range capability, the Cargo variant is available with multiple battery options, including a 71.2 kWh battery pack capable of delivering a driving range of up to 524 kilometres (NEDC), depending on vehicle specifications and operating conditions.

The model is expected to appeal to last-mile delivery providers and fleet operators seeking sustainable transportation alternatives.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Promotes Inclusive Mobility

One of the most notable configurations presented during the launch was the PV5 Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV).

Designed to support people of determination alongside general passengers, the vehicle incorporates dedicated accessibility features and an optimized cabin layout to facilitate easier mobility.

Unlike many aftermarket accessibility conversions, Kia’s WAV solution is produced as an integrated OEM offering, combining the base vehicle and accessibility equipment within a single factory-developed platform.

The approach aims to improve reliability, safety, and ease of use for both passengers and operators.

Prime Edition Targets Premium Transport Services

Kia also showcased the PV5 Prime Edition, a luxury conversion developed for executive transportation and premium hospitality services.

Target customers include:

  • Luxury hotels
  • Resorts
  • Executive transport operators
  • VIP shuttle providers

The configuration focuses on enhanced passenger comfort, privacy, premium materials, and elevated travel experiences, demonstrating how the PBV platform can be adapted to higher-end mobility requirements.

Drop Side Variant Expands Commercial Applications

The PV5 Drop Side highlights the platform's adaptability for specialized commercial operations.

Built on a Chassis-Cab configuration, the vehicle can support multiple body conversions, including:

  • Box vans
  • Refrigerated transport units
  • Utility vehicles
  • Maintenance service vehicles
  • Construction support fleets

This flexibility allows businesses to tailor the vehicle to industry-specific requirements while benefiting from a shared electric platform.

Advanced Safety and Connectivity Features

Across all configurations, the PV5 incorporates a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance technologies, including:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Lane Following Assist
  • Smart Cruise Control
  • Speed Limit Assist

The vehicle also features advanced telematics, real-time diagnostics, remote monitoring, and fleet management capabilities, making it particularly attractive for commercial operators.

Fast Charging and Smart Digital Ecosystem

To maximize operational uptime, the PV5 supports both AC and DC charging solutions.

Using DC fast charging, the vehicle can recharge from 10 percent to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes, depending on charging infrastructure, battery condition, and environmental factors.

The PV5 also integrates Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS), enabling native Google services, over-the-air software updates, and access to business-focused applications through Kia’s In-Vehicle Infotainment ecosystem.

These digital capabilities support a connected and continuously evolving ownership experience.

International Recognition

Prior to its Middle East debut, the Kia PV5 had already gained significant recognition on the global stage.

The model has received several prestigious accolades, including:

  • 2026 International Van of the Year
  • BBC TopGear Family Car of the Year (PV5 Passenger)
  • Five-Star Euro NCAP Commercial Van Safety Rating (PV5 Cargo)
  • Guinness World Record for Electric Van Range (PV5 Cargo)

These achievements underscore the platform’s technological capabilities and growing reputation within the global automotive industry.

Expanding Kia’s PBV Ecosystem

The launch of the PV5 marks only the beginning of Kia’s broader PBV strategy.

The company confirmed that additional PV5 variants, future PBV models, and concept vehicles such as the PV5 WKNDR Concept will further expand the ecosystem.

Kia expects the platform to support a wide range of future applications across passenger mobility, logistics, accessibility services, smart city transportation, taxi fleets, hospitality, and specialized commercial operations.

As governments and businesses throughout the Middle East and Africa continue to invest in sustainable mobility solutions, the introduction of the Kia PV5 positions the automaker at the forefront of the region’s transition toward connected, electric, and purpose-built transportation.
