Dense Fog in Dubai Disrupts Flights at DXB and Sharjah Airports
Emirates, flydubai, and Air Arabia services face delays of up to two hours
Dense fog blanketed parts of Dubai and the northern emirates early Saturday morning, leading to flight disruptions at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Sharjah International Airport (SHJ). Several departures and arrivals were delayed by one to two hours, airport tracking data confirmed.
According to airport sources, the fog reduced visibility significantly between 3am and 8am, prompting air traffic control to slow operations and reroute certain inbound flights.
Among the affected flights were Emirates services to Colombo, Auckland, Dar es Salaam, Malé, and Brisbane, as well as flydubai routes to Mombasa, Krabi, and other destinations, with delays ranging from 30 minutes to more than an hour.
Similarly, Air Arabia flights arriving from or departing to Delhi, Kazan, Addis Ababa, Bishkek, Alexandria, and Cochin experienced delays due to the heavy fog affecting runway visibility.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had earlier issued red and yellow fog alerts for Dubai, Sharjah, and other northern emirates, advising motorists of reduced visibility and enforcing temporary speed limits of 80 km/h on affected roads.
Airport authorities confirmed that passenger safety remains the top priority, and normal flight operations resumed gradually as visibility improved later in the morning.
