Fujairah Environment Authority Participates in UNESCO World Heritage Committee Session
The Fujairah Environment Authority is participating in the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea, as part of the United Arab Emirates delegation, joining representatives from States Parties and international experts in natural and cultural heritage.
The participation comes as the World Heritage Committee evaluates the nomination of Wadi Wurayah in Fujairah for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The nomination highlights the reserve's outstanding environmental, geological, and cultural significance, as well as its rich biodiversity at both regional and global levels.
During the session, the Authority's delegation is taking part in meetings and discussions focused on protecting natural heritage and environmental reserves, while showcasing the ecological importance of Wadi Wurayah, which spans 220 square kilometres and is home to 1,099 species of flora and fauna.
The reserve has already gained international recognition after being designated as part of UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR) under the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme in 2018.
The Fujairah Environment Authority said its participation reflects its commitment to supporting national conservation initiatives, strengthening collaboration with international organisations, and promoting the exchange of expertise and best practices in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. The efforts also align with the UAE's vision for sustainable development and the responsible management of natural resources.
