Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and Alliances for Global Sustainability partner with IMKAN to launch The Guardians Initiative

In line with the UAE Vision 2021, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and Alliances for Global Sustainability (AGS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Abu Dhabi-based place-maker IMKAN at AlJurf, declaring IMKAN's The Guardians Initiative. The initiative is one of the first UAE developer pledges to safeguard, protect and preserve Abu Dhabis various heritage, nature, flora and fauna and marine environments.

The UAE Vision 2021 is the countrys ambitious environmental programme that objectives to protect local natural landscapes and wildlife, while decreasing the UAEs carbon footprint. The Guardians' Initiative will assist the objectives of the UAE Vision 2021 via a wide-range of activities and events throughout Abu Dhabi and other emirates.

Commenting on The Guardians Initiative, Sheikha Shamma Bint Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Founder and CEO of Alliances For Global Sustainability, said: As a nation, we attempt to guard biodiversity. We are lucky to experience a great vicinity that is home to a prosperous array of landscapes, every one of which performs a special role in preserving the subtle stability of local ecosystems.

She continued: As we make tremendous strides in creating our global presence, it is essential to make sure that this is not at the value of our surrounding natural environment. This task builds on the concepts set out by the founding father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Nahyan, and will not only assist guard our countrys natural habitats however also bring humans together. Throughout his life, the countrys founding father was one of the worlds greatest conservationists. He put the UAE on the world map as a pioneer of environmentalism. It is now our duty to engage and train future generations. Through an interesting programme of activities and events which will run from this January onwards, MOCCAE, AGS and IMKAN will proceed to join the local community with nature.

His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said: Preserving the nearby surroundings and making sure its sustainability have long topped our list of priorities in the UAE. Given the growing pressures on our environment, which includes climate change, pollution, and habitat degradation, collective action to maintain the countrys natural assets has currently received a heightened importance.

Speaking on the initiative, His Excellency Dr Al Zeyoudi said: Our partnership with the private sector is key to successfully contributing to guard the marine and terrestrial environment and making sure the sustainability of our biodiversity. Doing so will help create a better future for present day and subsequent generations. We thank IMKAN for its dedication to supporting protect Abu Dhabis environment, and look ahead to the enormous milestones we hope to achieve together.

Walid El Hindi, Chief Executive Officer of IMKAN, said: As we enter the third decade of the new millennium, it is turning into ever more apparent that eco-friendly practices will decide the success and survival of upcoming generations. Looking to the future - and in line with Sheikh Zayeds vision - IMKAN is decided to emerge as a leading voice on green practices in the UAE and beyond. This is why we are proud now to announce the Guardians Initiative in partnership with AGS and MOCCAE. The programme is in line with the goals of the UAEs ambitious Vision 2021 plan and will try to guard the regions unique heritage, while at the same time employ revolutionary practices to discover and enforce eco-friendly solutions that help nearby land and marine habitats.

In addition to MOCCAE, the Guardians Initiative will work alongside organisations such as the Alliances for Global Sustainability to promote and enact a proactive green policy in IMKANs projects. Initiatives covered in the agenda are protection programmes for the gazelle, oryx, antelope, and regional birds, a programme of seashore clean-ups, habitat aid for turtles, and schemes to guard nearby vegetation and fauna. The reach of the Guardians Initiative consists of unique overarching issues to align with the founders passion for nature, delight in the nearby heritage and upholding of conservation efforts, presently targeted in Abu Dhabi though welcoming collaboration from throughout the UAE.
