Marafiq, an OQ company affiliated with the Oman Investment Authority, has been recognized with the ‘Energy Efficiency Excellence Award’ and its Managing Director Abdullah Al Hashimi was named ‘Sustainability Leader of the Year’ at the Sustainability Innovation Awards 2024. The awards, organized by BNC Publishing in Dubai, acknowledge Marafiq’s leadership in advancing sustainability and energy efficiency in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.

The accolades highlight Marafiq’s dedication to environmental stewardship through innovative green energy initiatives. These efforts include a significant achievement at the Marafiq Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant in Duqm, where advanced pressure energy exchangers have reduced power consumption by 57.75%, leading to lower emissions and operational costs.

Abdullah Al Hashimi, Managing Director at Marafiq, expressed his commitment to sustainability: “Sustainability is integral to our operations at Marafiq. Our initiatives in Duqm showcase our dedication to supporting Oman Vision 2040 and fostering a green economy. Marafiq’s sustainable practices extend beyond the RO plant, including the adoption of solar panels and efficient electrical equipment at the DPC Plant. These measures are part of Marafiq’s broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, aimed at reducing energy consumption, curbing emissions, and promoting sustainable development.

Abdullah Al Hashimi’s recognition as ‘Sustainability Leader of the Year’ underscores his contributions to advancing sustainable practices and reducing carbon footprints. Under his leadership since 2018, Marafiq has grown into a leading utility provider with a strong focus on efficiency and sustainability.

Established in November 2013, Marafiq holds exclusive rights to provide utility services in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) for 25 years. Given the region’s arid conditions, Marafiq’s water and energy conservation efforts are critical for supporting long-term sustainable development.
