Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville ribbon-cutting marks new era of luxury in Republic of Congo
The Republic of Congo has marked a significant milestone in its hospitality sector with the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville, the country’s first purpose-built luxury hotel. The event signals a new phase in high-end hospitality development in the capital and strengthens Brazzaville’s position as a regional centre for business, diplomacy, and tourism.
Located along Avenue Amílcar Cabral and overlooking the Congo River, the hotel introduces Kempinski’s European hospitality standards to the city, while integrating Congolese cultural and design elements. The property has been developed by Al Othman Holding of Saudi Arabia and represents Kempinski Hotels’ first opening in Africa since 2015.
The ceremony was attended by President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from Al Othman Real Estate Group and Kempinski Hotels. The programme included traditional Congolese performances, reflecting the hotel’s emphasis on blending international luxury with local heritage.
Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville features 197 rooms and suites, offering views of either the city or the Congo River. Interior design draws inspiration from the surrounding natural landscape, combining African materials and motifs with refined European styling. The hotel aims to serve both international visitors and residents seeking premium hospitality services.
Speaking at the event, Abdullah Mohammed Abdullah Al-Othman, Vice Chairman of Al Othman Holding, said the project reflects the group’s commitment to raising hospitality standards in the Republic of Congo while supporting local economic development and cultural identity.
The property offers multiple dining venues, including La Capitale, an all-day dining restaurant serving international and local cuisine, and Café de Paris, a café inspired by classic European concepts. Leisure and wellness facilities include Kempinski The Spa, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, tennis courts, and a children’s club.
For corporate and government events, the hotel provides more than 870 square metres of meeting and event space, including a ballroom with capacity for up to 600 guests. Four meeting rooms are named after African hardwoods, reflecting the country’s natural environment.
Paul Lonergan, Chief Operating and Asset Management Officer at Kempinski Hotels, said the opening demonstrates the brand’s long-term commitment to Africa and its intention to support tourism growth and destination development in emerging markets.
General Manager Etienne Joguin added that the hotel is designed to become a leading address for business, leisure, and official gatherings, contributing to Brazzaville’s international profile and hospitality infrastructure.
As Brazzaville continues to expand as an administrative and diplomatic hub, the opening of Kempinski Hotel Brazzaville is expected to support tourism growth, create employment opportunities, and enhance the city’s appeal for international conferences and high-level events.
