Geely Expands GEESATCOM with 11-Satellite Launch to Strengthen Autonomous Mobility

Geespace, the aerospace subsidiary of Geely Holding, has successfully launched 11 new low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, further expanding the Geely Future Mobility Constellation, also known as GEESATCOM. The launch, which took place on August 9, brings the constellation’s operational total to 41 satellites, marking a significant milestone in Geely’s mission to build a fully integrated space-to-ground mobility ecosystem.

The new satellites form the fourth orbital plane of the network and are designed to enhance precision mapping, GPS reliability, and real-time data links. These features are critical for advancing autonomous driving technologies, connected vehicle ecosystems, and seamless global communication.

Driving the Future of Smart and Connected Mobility

The GEESATCOM network is envisioned as the backbone of Geely’s connected and autonomous mobility strategy. Once Phase One is completed by the end of 2025, the constellation will include 72 satellites, capable of serving over 200 million users worldwide. This system will enable real-time global coverage to support autonomous driving, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications, urban air mobility, and advanced fleet management.

The satellites provide centimetre-level GPS accuracy, reliable data transmission, and connectivity even in areas lacking traditional network coverage. For drivers, this translates into enhanced navigation, uninterrupted infotainment, improved over-the-air updates, and robust emergency communication services.

Building on Previous Milestones

The August 2025 launch follows earlier successful deployments in 2022 and 2024:

  • June 2022: Nine GeeSAT-1 satellites introduced centimetre-level accuracy and V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) systems.

  • February 2024: A second orbital plane of 11 satellites expanded remote sensing and navigation for Geely vehicles, including the Zeekr 001 FR and Geely Galaxy E8.

  • September 2024: Ten additional satellites brought the constellation to 30, delivering 24/7 connectivity across 90% of the globe.

With the latest launch, GEESATCOM is now closer to achieving full coverage, making connected driving more reliable and accessible than ever before.

Practical Applications for Everyday Driving

For consumers, the satellite network ensures:

  • Accurate navigation in remote regions with centimetre-level GPS.

  • Reliable vehicle communication through satellite IoT, even beyond cellular coverage.

  • Enhanced driver assistance, remote diagnostics, and real-time mapping for safer mobility.

Supporting Safety, Logistics, and Innovation

Beyond consumer benefits, GEESATCOM has broader applications in fleet management, logistics, ride-hailing, and emergency response. Real-time data links enable efficient coordination of fleets, while the system’s connectivity ensures faster response times in disaster or low-network environments.

Geely has significantly increased investment in research and development to support this satellite initiative. In the first half of 2024, R&D funding rose by nearly 18% to RMB 7 billion, underscoring the company’s “Smart Geely 2025” strategy and electrification roadmap.

Satellite Technology in Action

The global rollout of GEESATCOM is also being highlighted at major international events. As an official partner of the World Games 2025 in Chengdu, Geely is deploying its high-precision positioning and communication systems to manage event fleets, showcasing how satellite-powered mobility can redefine transport efficiency on a global stage.

With its expanding satellite constellation, Geely is reinforcing its role as a leader in smart mobility innovation, paving the way for safer, smarter, and more connected driving experiences worldwide.
