Chery and AW Rostamani drive sustainable mobility at IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi
As sustainability adoption continues to transform mobility worldwide, carmaker Chery—represented by AW Rostamani Group in the UAE—has been named the Exclusive VIP Mobility Partner for the 2025 IUCN World Conservation Congress, the world’s largest environmental decision-making forum. The event will take place in Abu Dhabi from October 9 to 15, 2025.
A fleet of 28 Chery plug-in hybrids, including the TIGGO 9 Plug-In Hybrid SUV and Arrizo 8 Plug-In Hybrid sedan, will provide eco-friendly transportation for delegates during the week-long conference.
Zaher Sabbagh, Director of Chery UAE, said: “AWR Group is contributing to a more sustainable UAE through responsible practices, environmental stewardship, and impactful partnerships. This collaboration reinforces our sustainability legacy and positions Chery as a global brand driving innovation with purpose. By placing our plug-in hybrid fleet at the service of the IUCN World Conservation Congress, we are amplifying international commitments to environmental protection and supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”
Rising demand for plug-in hybrids
Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are gaining traction in the Gulf region, where hot summers and long driving distances demand both efficiency and reliability. They allow clean, electric driving within cities while maintaining the backup of a combustion engine for longer journeys.
According to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) 2024 Global EV Outlook, sales of new electric cars—including plug-in hybrids—rose by 35% in 2023, reaching almost 14 million units globally. Experts say that the growing success of PHEVs could accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility and support national net zero goals.
Global sustainability commitment
Chery has committed to reducing carbon emissions across its vehicle lifecycle. By the end of 2023, all Chery models achieved a 95% recyclability rate and 85% reusability rate, highlighting the brand’s investment in a circular economy.
Road transport remains a significant contributor to climate change. The World Resources Institute reported in 2021 that it accounted for 12.2% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Research by BloombergNEF suggests that by 2035, electrified vehicles—including hybrids—could represent over 60% of global passenger vehicle sales.
Against this backdrop, Chery UAE is aligning product innovation with meaningful community engagement, strengthening its role in shaping a cleaner and more connected future for the region.
