UAE to prosecute social media users for violating content standards

The Federal Public Prosecution, in coordination with the National Media Office (NMO), announced on Tuesday, August 26, that a group of social media users will face prosecution for violating the UAE’s media content standards.

According to the NMO, the individuals were found posting material that contravened the country’s content regulations. The violations prompted an official investigation, leading to legal action against the group.

The UAE Media Council emphasized that it conducts 24/7 monitoring to identify breaches of media laws. Authorities said the measures are part of broader efforts to ensure a responsible media environment while protecting the community from harmful or unconstructive content.

Residents were reminded to use social media responsibly and to adhere to the values of media ethics. The council also urged users to respect both national regulations and the terms of individual social platforms.

Earlier in March, the NMO had issued a public reminder for all social media users to follow principles aligned with the UAE’s core values of respect, tolerance, and coexistence. At the time, the authority also warned that legal action would be taken against anyone found in violation of these directives.

The latest prosecution underscores the UAE’s firm stance on maintaining a safe and ethical digital environment.
