UAE President and King of Jordan reject Israeli annexation plans in West Bank
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Jordan’s King Abdullah have firmly rejected any Israeli plans to annex the occupied West Bank, reiterating their countries’ unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The leaders met at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi during King Abdullah’s working visit, where they discussed regional and international developments, with Palestine at the forefront of their talks.
Both sides underscored the importance of intensified international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. They stressed that annexation of any part of the occupied Palestinian territory, along with forced displacement or continued settlement expansion, would undermine peace prospects, threaten regional stability, and violate Palestinian rights.
The meeting came after reports earlier in September that Israel is considering annexation in the West Bank as a possible response to France and other countries recognising a Palestinian state. Such a move would likely draw condemnation from Palestinians as well as Arab and Western governments.
King Abdullah later departed from Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Airport, where he was bid farewell by Sheikh Mohamed and senior officials.
