UAE Ministry of Culture Signs Four Agreements to Empower Artisans at ‘Make it in the Emirates’ 2026

The Ministry of Culture has signed four strategic cooperation agreements aimed at supporting Emirati artisans and creatives, during its participation in the fifth edition of Make it in the Emirates 2026 in Abu Dhabi.

Held at the ADNEC Centre, the event runs until May 7 and highlights national efforts to strengthen cultural industries, promote heritage preservation, and drive creative economy growth.

Strategic Partnerships to Boost Creative Sector

The agreements were signed in the presence of Sheikh Salem Al Qassimi, with partners including:

  • Fatima bint Mohamed bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI)
  • Ghars Centre for Social Empowerment
  • Almandoos Trading
  • Al Khaznah Leathers

The collaborations aim to enhance skills, expand market access, and create sustainable opportunities for local artisans.

Key Focus Areas of the Agreements

Each agreement targets a specific area within the cultural and creative industries:

  • Skills Development & Training:
Workshops, exhibitions, and ongoing training programmes to build artisan capabilities
  • Heritage Preservation:
Supporting traditional crafts and integrating them with modern design and innovation
  • Market Access & Exposure:
Providing platforms for artisans to showcase and commercialise their work
  • Sustainable Growth:
Strengthening the role of creative industries as a contributor to the national economy

One initiative includes quarterly specialised workshops and curated exhibitions, while another offers dedicated creative spaces at cultural centres to support artisans free of charge.

Strengthening National Identity Through Crafts

Officials emphasised that traditional crafts represent a living expression of UAE heritage, playing a vital role in preserving national identity and connecting generations.

The agreements also aim to integrate heritage craftsmanship with contemporary applications, particularly in sectors such as leather design and applied arts, ensuring long-term relevance and sustainability.

Artisans Pavilion Showcases Talent

As part of the event, the Artisans Pavilion features:

  • Nearly 200 registered artisans
  • Participation from 21 major entities
  • Contributions from 18 creative companies

This collective effort highlights a unified commitment to elevating the UAE’s creative sector and showcasing its diverse craftsmanship on a national platform.

Supporting a Growing Creative Economy

The initiative aligns with broader UAE strategies to boost local content, empower creative entrepreneurs, and position the country as a regional hub for culture and innovation.

By fostering collaboration between government entities and private sector partners, the Ministry continues to build a sustainable ecosystem that supports both heritage preservation and economic development.
