UAE Completes First-Ever HAPS Flights, Advancing Global Aerospace Leadership

Mira Aerospace, a joint venture between Bayanat and UAVOS, has successfully completed a series of first-ever High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) flights in the UAE. The test flights, which took place over Abu Al Abyad Island, mark a major milestone in the UAE’s aerospace industry and strengthen the country’s international reputation for innovation in advanced aerospace technologies.

The HAPS aircraft, designed to fly at stratospheric altitudes for extended periods, carried an Earth Observation payload, gathering critical flight data and testing various scenarios. These flights highlight the potential applications of HAPS technology in areas such as environmental monitoring and Earth observation, making significant strides toward global technological leadership.

Hasan Al Hosani, Managing Director of Bayanat and Chairman of Mira Aerospace, said, "As Bayanat merges with Yahsat to form Space42, these successful HAPS flights are a crucial part of our vision. This achievement moves us closer to the UAE’s ambitious goals and showcases our commitment to leading aerospace innovation."

Khaled Al Marzouqi, CEO of Mira Aerospace, emphasized the importance of HAPS technology for various sectors, including agriculture, energy, and environmental monitoring. "The UAE’s adoption of cutting-edge technologies will position the country as a global leader in space innovation and data diversity," he said.

HAPS technology, recognized by the World Economic Forum as one of the top ten emerging technologies, provides zero-carbon, solar-powered flights for continuous monitoring and communication services. By bridging the gap between satellite and terrestrial systems, it offers a sustainable, flexible solution for global challenges, enhancing capabilities across vast areas.

Mira Aerospace’s advancements signal a bright future for the UAE’s aerospace industry, driving forward innovations that will impact a range of sectors worldwide.
