TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Secures Second Place at Lone Star Le Mans, Strengthens Championship Lead

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) achieved a second-place finish at the Lone Star Le Mans, round six of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The No. 7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid Electric Hypercar, driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries, impressed with its strategic tire choices, quick pit stops, and relentless pace, putting Toyota 11 points ahead in the manufacturers' championship.

Nobuyuki Takemura, Chief Representative of Middle East & Central Asia for Toyota, praised the team: "This podium finish highlights Toyota's cutting-edge electrified vehicle technology, pushing boundaries in motorsports and driving the development of 'ever-better cars' for our customers."

Conway started ninth but quickly advanced through the field, while De Vries and Kobayashi maintained the strong performance, overcoming the competition and weather challenges. Despite a drive-through penalty in the final 40 minutes, Kobayashi pushed hard to secure second place, finishing just 1.780 seconds behind the winner.

Toyota’s participation in motorsports has been instrumental in shaping its future technology, with TGR formed in 2015 to consolidate its efforts in various global racing events. TGR continues to push the limits, aiming to develop new technologies that bring joy and freedom to drivers everywhere.

TGR's next challenge will be at the 6 Hours of Fuji on 15 September, where the team looks to further strengthen its championship lead.
