Tadweer Group and Umm Al Emarat Park set Guinness World Record with largest recycled bottle-cap mosaic
Tadweer Group, in collaboration with Umm Al Emarat Park, has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest mosaic made from recycled materials, creating a large-scale artwork using plastic bottle caps to promote sustainability and community engagement.
The 25-square-metre mosaic, designed in the shape of universal recycling symbols, was created using 24,846 recycled plastic bottle caps. The record was officially recognised during a ceremony held at Umm Al Emarat Park on 18 December, attended by representatives from Tadweer Group, the Park, and Guinness World Records adjudicators.
Earlier this month, the partners invited members of the Abu Dhabi community to participate in the record attempt as part of a wider environmental awareness initiative. Visitors were encouraged to place recycled bottle caps onto a specially constructed wall, transforming individual contributions into a collective artwork that highlights the importance of recycling and responsible waste management.
The record-breaking initiative marked the culmination of the “Cap Your Way to Sustainability” outreach campaign, launched in partnership with Tadweer Group. The campaign engaged schools and community organisations across Abu Dhabi, encouraging the collection of plastic bottle caps to raise awareness about recycling and environmental responsibility.
Participation took place over two designated periods from 8 to 10 December, during which families, students and visitors contributed to the mosaic’s construction. Umm Al Emarat Park offered free entry during specific time slots to encourage broad community involvement. In total, 356 participants took part, contributing more than 18 hours of combined effort to complete the artwork.
Abdulwahed Juma, Executive Director of Communications and Awareness at Tadweer Group, said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability. He highlighted Tadweer Group’s long-term objective of diverting 80 per cent of waste away from Abu Dhabi landfills by 2030 and emphasised the role of community participation in achieving environmental goals.
Rasha Kablawi, official spokesperson for Umm Al Emarat Park, described the achievement as a reflection of community spirit and shared responsibility. She noted that while setting a Guinness World Record was a milestone, the broader significance lies in promoting sustainable practices and environmental innovation, particularly during the UAE’s Year of Community.
The project demonstrates how recycled materials can be transformed into meaningful public art, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and showcasing the impact of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.
