Qatar Waives Traffic Fines Issued on Day of Al Udeid Attack in Exceptional One-Time Measure
The Qatari Ministry of Interior has announced a full waiver of traffic fines issued on Monday, June 23, in response to the unprecedented security situation following the Iranian missile attack targeting the Al Udeid US Air Base.
The decision comes as a gesture of gratitude and recognition of the swift, responsible response demonstrated by Qatar’s residents and citizens during the unexpected crisis. On the night of June 23, Iranian missiles were seen lighting up Doha's skies, heading toward the U.S. base hosted in Qatar, in retaliation for an earlier U.S. strike on Iran’s underground nuclear facilities.
Explosions were heard over the capital as air defenses responded, causing widespread panic and urgent movement across the city. Residents rushed home to ensure their families' safety or made their way to work to fulfill professional duties under tense circumstances.
“This decision comes as a gesture of appreciation for the swift and responsible response demonstrated by citizens and residents in promptly reaching their workplaces and service centres, under pressing circumstances that required urgent movement by a broad segment of the public to fulfil their national and professional duties,” the Ministry of Interior stated.
Qatar also summoned the Iranian ambassador and officially condemned the attack, reaffirming its commitment to regional peace and stability.
Authorities emphasized that this waiver is a one-time, exceptional measure applicable only to violations committed on June 23, and reiterated the importance of continued compliance with traffic laws.
