Palo Alto Networks Introduces Next-Generation Trust Security to Strengthen Digital Resilience

Palo Alto Networks has unveiled its Next-Generation Trust Security (NGTS) platform, introducing a new approach to operational resilience by automating certificate lifecycle management and addressing the growing complexity of modern cryptographic systems.

The launch comes as organizations face a significant shift in digital security requirements, with certificate renewal cycles shrinking to as little as 47 days and encryption standards evolving toward a post-quantum future. NGTS aims to transform certificate management from a manual, error-prone process into an automated, network-driven function, reducing the risk of outages and improving efficiency.

Anand Oswal, Executive Vice President of Network Security at Palo Alto Networks, emphasized the operational risks associated with outdated trust management practices. He noted that expired or mismanaged certificates can disrupt critical applications, cloud services, and infrastructure, making automation essential as organizations scale.

Traditionally, digital certificates—often described as the “passports” of the digital economy—had long lifespans and required minimal updates. However, enterprises are now operating in what experts describe as a continuous cryptographic reset, where certificates must be updated more frequently and at scale, often across complex hybrid environments.

NGTS introduces a network-native platform that integrates certificate lifecycle management (CLM) with real-time network visibility and enforcement. This approach enables organizations to identify, manage, and update certificates across all systems without relying on fragmented tools or manual coordination.

According to the company, the platform delivers enhanced visibility by identifying all certificates across applications and services, including previously undetected “shadow” certificates that can create security vulnerabilities. It also supports operational resilience by automatically renewing credentials before they expire, helping prevent service disruptions.

Another key feature is cryptographic agility, allowing enterprises to adapt to evolving encryption standards, including those required for a post-quantum computing environment. By automating these processes, organizations can transition to new security frameworks without significant operational overhead.

Industry analysts view the shift as a necessary evolution. Experts from International Data Corporation highlighted that traditional models of trust—based on one-time authentication—are no longer sufficient in dynamic, high-risk environments. Continuous, automated trust management is becoming essential to maintaining security and uptime.

The platform also incorporates machine identity intelligence through integration with CyberArk, helping bridge the gap between security teams managing certificates and operations teams responsible for system uptime.

Unlike legacy tools that manage certificates in isolation, NGTS embeds trust directly into the network layer, enabling organizations to maintain a unified security posture across their infrastructure.

As enterprises navigate shorter certificate lifecycles, increasing regulatory requirements, and the transition toward quantum-resistant encryption, solutions like NGTS are expected to play a critical role in future-proofing digital operations.
