National Committee of Biosecurity Holds Second Meeting for 2024 and Discussed Epidemic Preparedness Map Project and National Biosecurity Framework
The National Committee of Biosecurity convened for its second meeting of 2024, addressing crucial measures to bolster biosecurity across the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Chaired by HE Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, the virtual meeting delved into a spectrum of initiatives aimed at enhancing the country's preparedness against potential biological threats.
In response to the unprecedented climatic event that brought record-breaking rainfall to the UAE, the committee underscored the imperative to reinforce mosquito control efforts. Emphasizing biosecurity as a top priority for the UAE, Dr. Al Dahak affirmed the nation's commitment to implementing a comprehensive ecosystem for sustainable biosecurity, underpinned by robust legislative structures and decisive actions.
"We are dedicated to ensuring sustainable national biosecurity across all emirates, with a particular focus on controlling mosquito proliferation," stated Dr. Al Dahak. "Collaborating closely with relevant authorities, we will undertake all necessary measures to achieve this goal and sustain our commitment to biosecurity."
Acknowledging the steadfast dedication of committee members and working teams, Dr. Al Dahak extended gratitude for their tireless efforts in fortifying UAE's biosecurity landscape.
The meeting delved into various pivotal topics within the realm of biosecurity, including updates on the execution of the 'National Biosecurity Framework 2023-2032' and endeavors to expedite its implementation. The presentation of the Epidemic Preparedness Map Project and discussions on coordination with the Cyber Security Council and the UAE Data Centre were also integral parts of the agenda, aimed at enhancing preparedness and access to critical information for decision-makers.
Addressing the pressing issue of mosquito control, strategies were outlined, encompassing meticulous monitoring of mosquito proliferation, coordinated efforts with relevant authorities, and public awareness campaigns promoting sustainable practices to mitigate mosquito populations effectively.
Dignitaries in attendance included HE Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment; HE Major General Jassim Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior; HE Colonel Saeed Nasser Ahmed Al Kaabi, Deputy Commander of Chemical Defense at the Ministry of Defence, among others.
The comprehensive meeting, attended by key stakeholders from various governmental departments and agencies, reflects the UAE's unwavering commitment to safeguarding its biosecurity infrastructure against emerging challenges.
