he campaign, which will continue until May 2025, launched its first phase in February 2022. The Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Emirates Health Services (EHS) are actively promoting awareness regarding diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and propagating effective preventive measures.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has announced the commencement of the third phase of the Anti-Mosquito Campaign in collaboration with the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) and various local authorities across the UAE. This campaign, launched in February 2022, aims to eradicate mosquito breeding hotspots and minimize infestation across the country, with efforts continuing until May 2025.
Following heavy rainfall in the UAE, which heightened the risk of mosquito proliferation in water pools and damp areas, MOCCAE, alongside the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Emirates Health Services (EHS), is actively promoting awareness about diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and effective preventive measures at the national level.
The third phase of the campaign focuses on raising awareness among society members and the private sector regarding efforts to eradicate mosquitoes while promoting best practices and behaviors to support this goal. Thorough investigations and monitoring of hotspots where mosquitoes are prevalent are being conducted across various emirates, covering locations such as construction sites, investment projects, schools, farms, and residential areas.
Her Excellency Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE, emphasized the ministry's commitment to collaborating with relevant authorities to control the spread of mosquitoes and increase public awareness about sustainable practices. She highlighted the ministry's utilization of expertise, resources, and qualified teams to effectively manage any developments contributing to mosquito spread.
HE Dr. Saif Juma Al Dhaheri, Director of the National Operations Centre at NCEMA, stressed the importance of national collaboration in addressing biological challenges and safeguarding society. He commended the successful outcomes of cooperation between MOCCAE and supporting entities in ensuring the success of the campaign.
Eng. Othaibah Saeed Al Qaydi, Director of the Municipal Affairs Department at MOCCAE, reiterated the ministry's commitment to deploying technological solutions to control mosquito spread and promoting preventive measures. He emphasized the use of international technologies with the highest standards to target mosquitoes in prevalent areas while ensuring they are not harmful to humans and animals.
Key preventive measures highlighted by Eng. Al Qaydi include eliminating stagnant water in irrigation basins, repairing water leaks, maintaining cleanliness in rainwater accumulation areas, and regular monitoring of water pools to prevent mosquito breeding and spread.
In the upcoming period, MOCCAE will release additional preventive measures and protocols aimed at containing the proliferation of mosquitoes, underscoring the ongoing efforts to ensure public health and safety across the UAE.
