MG Motor Middle East Signals Regional NEV Push with MG8 PHEV Taxi Rollout in Saudi Arabia
MG Motor Middle East is advancing its new energy vehicle (NEV) strategy through a major taxi deployment in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant step in the region’s transition toward electrified mobility solutions.
The initiative is being rolled out through a partnership between Jiad Modern Motors, the official distributor of MG in the Kingdom, and Hafil Transport Company, a leading mobility provider.
Under the agreement, the MG8 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) will be introduced into taxi operations within the Makkah Taxi network. The initial phase includes 55 vehicles, with an additional 75 units set to join next month, bringing the total deployment to 130 taxis.
The rollout highlights growing demand in Saudi Arabia for efficient, durable, and technology-driven vehicles capable of handling high-utilisation, real-world conditions. Founded in 1999, Hafil Transport Company plays a key role in delivering transport services across the Kingdom, making it a strategic partner in scaling electrified mobility solutions.
At the core of the deployment is the MG8 PHEV, a premium sedan designed for intensive fleet use. The vehicle features an advanced plug-in hybrid system offering a combined driving range of up to 1,655 km, supporting reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. Its battery technology is engineered for consistent performance across extended operating cycles, ensuring reliability and cost efficiency for taxi operators.
The partnership aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader push to enhance sustainable transport infrastructure and reduce environmental impact. It also reflects MG’s approach of focusing on practical, scalable electrification, tailored to real-world mobility needs rather than purely conceptual innovation.
Jacky Xu, Managing Director of MG Motor Middle East, described the rollout as a key milestone in the brand’s regional expansion, highlighting the strength of its diverse NEV portfolio, which includes hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and extended-range electric models.
He noted that deploying the MG8 PHEV in taxi operations demonstrates the brand’s ability to deliver high-performance, efficient solutions that meet the demands of commercial mobility while supporting the region’s sustainability goals.
As the Middle East accelerates its transition toward cleaner transportation, this deployment provides a scalable model for fleet electrification, positioning MG as a growing player in the GCC’s evolving mobility ecosystem.
