MBZUAI Talks to discuss emerging applications and opportunities in biometrics recognition technology

With the ever-growing importance of contactless biometric technology in a society changed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), the worlds first graduate-level, research-based artificial intelligence (AI) university, encourages the public to participate in its forthcoming MBZUAI Talks webinar, Biometric Recognition: How do I Know Who You Are?, on 1 September from 6-7 pm UAE time.

The talk will be led by Professor Anil K. Jain, a part of MBZUAIs Board of Trustees and Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University. During the webinar, Dr Jain will review the new advances of AI research in biometrics, as well as its modern and emerging forms, while casting some light on difficulties such as user secrecy and safety matters. He will also highlight the possibilities offered by the new biometric and facial identification systems that are developing as a consequence of the pandemic.

Biometric technology is more prominent in its applications to enhance user security, verify national ID, secure access control, and deter financial fraud, said Professor Anil K. Jain. Despite the development made, a number of tests and a lack of knowledge among the common public remain to hinder the complete potential of biometrics. In this talk, I will highlight the state of the art in biometrics and highlight analysis topics to improve the dependability, security and accuracy of biometric identification algorithms.

The webinar will also address some of the important areas of biometrics application for airport security, examining how the UAE is a frontrunner in utilising biometrics recognition technology, having strongly deployed multi-biometric entry and exit programs in airports to facilitate a secured, hygienic and smooth trip experience for passengers.
