Hazy skies, dust storms and fog alert issued across UAE on September 1
Residents across the UAE woke up to challenging weather conditions on Monday, September 1, as the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued alerts for fog, dust storms, and soaring temperatures above 40°C.
The NCM warned of early morning fog formation that could reduce visibility to near zero in several coastal and internal areas. The alert was in effect between 2 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., prompting motorists to exercise extreme caution during the morning commute.
According to the Met Office, fog was reported over Al Hamra, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road—stretching from Al Mugheirah Bridge to Jabal Al Dhannah Bridge in Al Dhafra—as well as in Um Laylah, east of Al Zarraf, Habshan, and Madinat Zayed.
AccuWeather reported that Dubai is experiencing hazy and dusty conditions with daytime highs reaching 40°C. The evening will remain warm and hazy, with temperatures dropping only slightly to 31°C. Although the air temperature is currently at 35°C, the "real feel" under the sun has risen to 38°C.
In Abu Dhabi, conditions are expected to be slightly hotter, with highs of 41°C and lows similar to Dubai at 31°C. The "feels-like" temperature reached as high as 44°C due to the combination of heat and dust in the atmosphere.
Nationwide, the NCM forecast indicated fair to partly cloudy skies, with cloud development likely in eastern and southern regions. These clouds may become convective by the afternoon, signaling possible unstable atmospheric conditions.
Authorities have advised residents, especially drivers, to remain alert on the roads and to take precautions against heat exposure throughout the day.
