Global Mobile Broadband Forum 2024: Accelerating the 5.5G and AI Convergence to Lead the Mobile AI Era
The Global Mobile Broadband Forum 2024 (MBBF 2024) has officially commenced in Istanbul, Türkiye, under the theme "5.5G Leads Mobile AI Era." The event has attracted over 1,000 attendees, including mobile network carriers, ecosystem players, and industry leaders, to explore topics ranging from business model innovation to industry development and technological advancements in the Mobile AI era.
The forum aims to enhance the convergence of 5.5G and intelligent applications, creating significant value for the mobile industry. Ken Hu, Huawei's Rotating Chairman, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the transformative power of AI in everyday life. “In the future, AI will change everything. Everyone will be able to use it, anytime and anywhere,” Hu stated, underscoring the crucial role mobile networks and devices will play in this evolution.
2024 marks a pivotal year with the commercial launch of 5.5G and the rapid integration of AI into daily life. Currently, over 3 million AI-capable applications have been developed globally, surpassing the total number of non-AI apps available. This early rollout of 5.5G coinciding with AI adoption signifies the dawn of the Mobile AI era.
Li Peng, Huawei's Senior Vice President and President of ICT Sales & Service, delivered a keynote highlighting the immense growth opportunities presented by the Mobile AI era. "We will see new forms of interaction with devices and new intelligent services, leading to structural changes in traffic models," Li remarked, urging carriers to reshape their services and network infrastructure to capitalize on these advancements.
He emphasized two key actions for mobile carriers: preparing networks to support AI by enhancing capabilities such as uplink, latency, and capacity, and utilizing AI to optimize network operations and maintenance for improved user experiences.
The forum features boutique exhibitions showcasing innovative intelligent connectivity solutions for various sectors, including AI phones, intelligent cockpits, and AI-powered translation services. The continuous 5.5G coverage at the venue highlights the capabilities of 5.5G networks and the advanced products that support them.
The 15th Global Mobile Broadband Forum, running from October 30 to 31 in Istanbul, is hosted by Huawei in collaboration with industry partners GSMA and GTI.
