Palo Alto Networks Launches Idira, Next-Generation Identity Security Platform for AI-Powered Enterprises

New platform extends privileged access management across human, machine, and AI agent identities, helping organizations strengthen identity security, governance, and cyber resilience in the AI era.

Palo Alto Networks, the global cybersecurity leader, has introduced Idira, a next-generation identity security platform designed to help organizations discover, control, and govern all identities across increasingly complex digital environments. The launch marks a major evolution in identity security, extending modern privileged access management (PAM) capabilities to human, machine, and agentic AI identities.

As enterprises accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence, identity security has emerged as a critical cybersecurity challenge. AI-powered systems, autonomous agents, and machine identities now operate with privileged access to sensitive data and systems, creating new attack surfaces that traditional identity solutions were not designed to address.

According to Palo Alto Networks, identity-related threats have become one of the leading causes of cyber incidents, with nine out of ten organizations experiencing an identity-related breach during the past year. The company noted that machine and AI identities now outnumber human identities by 109 to one, significantly increasing the complexity of managing access and privileges across enterprise environments.

Idira aims to address these challenges by eliminating standing privileges and introducing dynamic, AI-driven controls that extend security protections to every identity. The platform combines identity discovery, privilege management, and automated governance into a unified framework designed for AI-enabled enterprises.

Peretz Regev, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Idira at Palo Alto Networks, said: “Identity has become the new battleground of the AI enterprise. With adversaries now logging in rather than breaking in, every identity has become a target. Idira transforms how enterprises secure this critical asset by evolving beyond traditional PAM and integrating machine identity security to deliver comprehensive agentic identity protection.”

The platform enables organizations to continuously identify identity risks, apply zero standing privilege and just-in-time access controls, and automate governance processes using AI-powered policies. These capabilities are intended to strengthen security while simplifying compliance and identity lifecycle management.

For existing CyberArk SaaS customers, Idira introduces enhanced discovery capabilities, user experience improvements, and expanded identity security options. Customers can also extend protection to machine and AI identities through additional licensing options, creating a more unified identity security environment.

Industry analysts view the launch as a significant step in the evolution of identity security. Will Townsend, Chief Analyst at LoneStar Advisory & Research, noted that privileged access management has evolved beyond traditional vault-based approaches as enterprises increasingly manage vast networks of human, machine, and AI-driven identities.

The introduction of Idira reflects a broader industry shift toward proactive identity security strategies that focus on continuous visibility, dynamic privilege management, and AI-driven governance. As organizations continue to adopt AI technologies, identity security is expected to play a central role in protecting critical systems, data, and digital operations.

With Idira, Palo Alto Networks aims to help enterprises strengthen cyber resilience, improve governance, and securely manage the growing number of identities that power modern digital ecosystems.
