FREELANDER 8 Makes First Public Appearance Ahead of Official Abu Dhabi Launch
FREELANDER 8, the latest premium intelligent new energy vehicle from FREELANDER International, has made its first public appearance at the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum held at The Peninsula Shanghai, marking a significant milestone ahead of the brand’s official launch in Abu Dhabi.
The showcase represents a major step in FREELANDER’s international expansion plans, with the Middle East selected as the brand’s first strategic launch market. The vehicle was unveiled before senior government officials, investors, and business leaders attending one of the first high-profile international investment forums to feature the model.
During the event, Lucia Mao, Chief Executive Officer of FREELANDER International, outlined the brand’s vision and global growth strategy in a keynote address delivered during a closed-door session.

British Heritage Meets New Energy Innovation
FREELANDER is positioned as a British premium intelligent all-terrain vehicle brand jointly developed by Jaguar Land Rover and Chery, drawing inspiration from the iconic Freelander nameplate first introduced in 1997.
Under the collaboration, Jaguar Land Rover leads vehicle design and brand development, while Chery contributes advanced new energy technologies and global supply chain expertise. The partnership aims to combine British automotive heritage, intelligent mobility solutions, and authentic all-terrain performance within a single premium offering.
Middle East Selected as First International Market
During discussions at the forum, FREELANDER executives engaged with investors and industry stakeholders regarding the company’s plans for international growth and expansion into key global markets.
Mao highlighted the Middle East as the ideal launch destination due to its strong demand for premium SUVs, sustained economic growth, and strategic location connecting global markets.
She confirmed that the brand’s official launch will take place in Abu Dhabi, serving as a gateway to wider expansion across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
Ambitious Global Expansion Plans
The Shanghai showcase further reinforced FREELANDER’s ambitious international roadmap. The company plans to enter approximately 90 countries and establish more than 1,100 customer touchpoints worldwide over the next five years.
Forum participants showed significant interest in the FREELANDER 8, particularly its combination of premium design, intelligent technologies, and all-terrain capabilities. The vehicle attracted attention from investors and business leaders seeking opportunities within the rapidly evolving new energy vehicle sector.
As demand for premium electric and intelligent vehicles continues to grow across the Middle East and global markets, FREELANDER aims to position itself as a distinctive player by blending British automotive heritage with next-generation mobility technologies.
The successful debut at the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum marks an important milestone for the brand as it prepares for its official Middle East launch and broader international expansion.
