Federal Tax Authority outlines strategy to develop Emirati talent in the tax agent profession

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has highlighted plans to strengthen national participation in the UAE’s tax sector through an integrated strategy aimed at expanding and developing Emirati competencies in the Tax Agent profession.

The announcement was made by His Excellency Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mulla, Director General of the FTA, during the opening of a Customer Council held in Dubai under the theme “Emirati Tax Agent.”

The initiative forms part of the Authority’s broader efforts to support national workforce development and increase reliance on qualified Emirati professionals within the country’s evolving tax ecosystem.

According to the FTA, the strategy focuses on building a larger pool of national tax specialists equipped with advanced technical expertise, professional capabilities, and a commitment to continuous learning and development, helping attract more UAE Nationals into one of the country’s growing strategic sectors.

The Customer Council was organised as part of the Authority’s integrated Customer Councils platform, which aims to strengthen communication between customers and government entities, gather feedback and recommendations, and encourage collaborative participation in improving public services and designing more effective customer experiences.

Speaking during the session, Al Mulla said the meeting forms part of a wider series of engagements led by the Authority to maintain direct dialogue with stakeholders across the tax sector.

He noted that these interactions are designed to promote tax awareness, encourage voluntary compliance, gather practical feedback, and support the continuous enhancement of FTA services and operations.

The Director General also emphasized the increasingly important role played by Tax Agents in supporting the efficiency and success of the UAE’s tax system.

He explained that the profession requires a combination of academic qualifications, specialist technical knowledge, and practical expertise, enabling Tax Agents to support taxable persons accurately and professionally while helping them meet tax obligations effectively.

According to Al Mulla, experience over recent years has demonstrated the ability of UAE Nationals to perform successfully and contribute meaningfully within the broader tax and financial services ecosystem.

During the Customer Council, FTA representatives and specialist teams presented several initiatives focused on strengthening the profession and supporting national capability development.

The discussions included plans related to qualifying and developing Emirati Tax Agents, expanding digital services dedicated to tax professionals, standardizing tax procedures and treatments, improving institutional integration, enhancing tax data quality, and strengthening compliance and oversight across tax service providers.

Through these initiatives, the Federal Tax Authority aims to support the continued evolution of a modern, efficient, and talent-driven tax system aligned with the UAE’s long-term economic and institutional development goals.
