Federal Tax Authority Launches 'Emirates Majalis' Initiative to Strengthen Engagement with UAE Citizens

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has launched the Emirates Majalis initiative under the slogan "Closer to Each Other", introducing a new platform for direct engagement with UAE citizens to enhance communication, address tax-related enquiries, and improve public awareness of the country's tax system.

The initiative was inaugurated during its first session at Al Khawaneej Majlis, attended by Abdulaziz Al Mulla and a number of UAE nationals.

During the session, Al Mulla highlighted the importance of strengthening direct dialogue between the Authority and the community, while commending entrepreneurs for their high levels of tax compliance and growing awareness of the UAE's tax regulations.

Addressing Citizens' Tax Queries

The inaugural discussion covered a range of practical tax-related topics raised by attendees, including:

  • Tax implications of purchasing a business licence registered under another person's name.
  • Tax treatment of residential and commercial real estate.
  • Tax obligations for influencers and content creators earning income from advertising, sponsorships, and promotional activities conducted commercially.
  • Various other tax procedures and customer concerns.

The Director General reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to listening to public feedback and developing services that better meet the needs and expectations of citizens.

Promoting Tax Awareness and Transparency

Al Mulla emphasised the importance of protecting confidential tax information, advising taxpayers not to share tax file details or reference numbers with unaccredited tax agents or unauthorised individuals. He noted that tax files serve as official records documenting taxpayers' obligations and submitted returns.

He described Emirates Majalis as the first community engagement initiative launched under his leadership, designed to strengthen communication with UAE citizens, identify challenges faced during tax procedures, and provide simpler, clearer, and more transparent tax services.

The initiative builds on the longstanding role of neighbourhood majalis in fostering dialogue and community partnerships while supporting the government's vision of delivering proactive, integrated, and citizen-focused public services.

Speaking during the inaugural session, Al Mulla said the initiative aims to improve awareness of tax procedures by providing direct access to information and answering citizens' enquiries, helping simplify the customer journey and enhance transparency.

He added that ongoing dialogue with the community will play an important role in improving tax services, addressing customer challenges, and strengthening trust between the Federal Tax Authority and the public.
