Federal Tax Authority Highlights UAE’s Digital Tax Transformation at St Petersburg Economic Forum

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) participated in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2026) in Russia, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to international cooperation and showcasing its progress in building a digitally advanced and innovation-driven tax system.

Held under the theme “Pragmatic Dialogue: A Path to a Stable Future,” the forum brought together government officials, policymakers, business leaders, and economic experts from around the world to discuss global economic priorities and opportunities for international collaboration.

During the event, His Excellency Abdulaziz Al Mulla, Director General of the FTA, joined Daniil Yegorov, Director General of the Federal Tax Service of Russia, in a panel discussion titled “Tax Authorities: Creating a Business-Friendly Environment and Ensuring Transparency for Implementing Countries.”

The session focused on how tax authorities can improve business environments while maintaining transparency and operational efficiency. During the discussion, Al Mulla presented the UAE’s experience in modernising its tax ecosystem through digital transformation and advanced technology adoption.

Key topics included the ongoing evolution of the UAE’s tax framework in alignment with international best practices, the development of the EmaraTax digital platform, and the expansion of the Tax Refunds for Tourists Scheme, including broader support for e-commerce channels.

The discussion also highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in strengthening tax administration and improving service delivery.

According to the FTA, AI technologies are currently being used across several areas of tax administration, including supporting the review of reconsideration requests submitted by taxable persons and enhancing analytical risk assessment capabilities through advanced intelligence systems.

These initiatives form part of an integrated three-year roadmap comprising 48 initiatives, reflecting the Authority’s long-term strategy to accelerate digital transformation and strengthen operational performance.

Commenting on the participation, Al Mulla stated that the Authority continues to invest in advanced technologies to enhance operational efficiency and provide more proactive, intelligent, and customer-focused services, in line with the UAE Government’s future-oriented vision.

He added that the UAE’s presence at international economic forums supports the country’s objective of exchanging expertise and strengthening partnerships with governments, institutions, and international organisations while advancing the goals of the UAE Vision 2031.

Recognised as one of the world’s leading economic gatherings, the St Petersburg International Economic Forum serves as an annual platform for dialogue on global economic trends, investment opportunities, development priorities, and international cooperation.
