Emirates Health Services Showcases ‘Future of Healthcare’ at Arab Health 2025

Emirates Health Services (EHS) is making a significant impact at Arab Health 2025, showcasing cutting-edge medical advancements under the theme "The Future of Healthcare." The organization is unveiling pioneering projects aimed at revolutionizing chronic disease management and improving patient care across the region.

Two groundbreaking initiatives are at the forefront: the Total Artificial Heart and Islet Cell Allo-Transplantation. These projects, developed in collaboration with leading international institutions, offer promising solutions for patients suffering from advanced heart disease and type 1 diabetes.

His Excellency Dr. Essam Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director of the Medical Services Sector at EHS, highlighted the importance of these innovations: "Participating in Arab Health 2025 reinforces our commitment to developing transformative healthcare solutions. These pioneering projects mark a major advancement in treating chronic conditions and align with the UAE’s National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031, which aims to enhance healthcare services for optimized community well-being."

The Total Artificial Heart project, developed in partnership with the Texas Heart Institute, features an innovative titanium pump that uses magnetic technology to efficiently circulate blood and fully support ventricular function. Already approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this technology has demonstrated success in initial transplant operations in the United States. EHS plans to introduce the artificial heart at Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah as part of its mission to enhance treatment options for heart failure patients.

Meanwhile, the Islet Cell Allo-Transplantation project, developed in collaboration with the University of Chicago, represents a breakthrough in diabetes care. This minimally invasive procedure transplants pancreatic cells directly into the liver using a fine catheter, enabling patients to regain blood sugar balance, prevent severe hypoglycemia, and potentially eliminate the need for insulin therapy. Having received FDA approval, the technique is poised to transform the management of type 1 diabetes.

These initiatives reflect EHS’s vision for the future of healthcare, leveraging state-of-the-art medical technology to enhance patient outcomes. In alignment with the UAE’s "We the UAE 2031" vision and the UAE Centennial 2071 Plan, EHS is committed to strengthening the healthcare sector and improving service quality through continuous innovation and collaboration.
