Takeda Strengthens Patient-Centered IBD Care in Saudi Arabia

Takeda has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the lives of people living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Saudi Arabia through a series of awareness, education, and digital health initiatives launched in conjunction with World IBD Day.

The company’s initiatives aim to enhance patient awareness, encourage early diagnosis, and support patient engagement through innovative digital health solutions designed to improve educational access and disease management throughout the patient journey.

Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, is becoming increasingly common globally and across Saudi Arabia. Once considered rare, the condition is now placing a growing burden on both patients and healthcare systems.

IBD often affects individuals during their most productive years and is characterised by chronic and unpredictable symptoms such as abdominal pain, weight loss, and recurring flare-ups, making long-term disease management challenging.

Throughout May, Takeda collaborated with healthcare institutions and medical professionals across Saudi Arabia to organise hospital-based educational programmes and community outreach initiatives focused on increasing awareness of IBD symptoms, promoting timely diagnosis, and encouraging informed healthcare discussions.

As part of its patient-centered approach, Takeda also highlighted the importance of responsible digital health technologies in improving disease awareness and patient education. The company introduced a new digital health solution aimed at supporting educational engagement and providing broader access to disease awareness resources for patients and caregivers.

The initiative is designed to encourage more informed healthcare engagement while supporting a more connected patient experience across the Kingdom.

Dr. Khaled Sary, General Manager, West Gulf, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to advancing patient-centered innovation in Saudi Arabia.

“By integrating technology with education and collaboration, we aim to support more informed, connected, and engaging patient experiences in alignment with the Kingdom’s healthcare transformation and Vision 2030 priorities,” he said.

Takeda stated that its ongoing efforts underline the growing importance of digital health and patient engagement in IBD awareness and education, positioning the company as a partner in delivering holistic and value-driven support solutions beyond treatment alone.
