Dubai Plan Lets Motorists Park and Switch to Traffic-Free Transport

Dubai is advancing its vision for smart and seamless urban mobility with a new initiative that allows motorists to park their vehicles and continue their journeys using traffic-free, driverless transport.

Parkin Company PJSC has partnered with Glydways Inc. to introduce integrated parking and transport solutions, transforming selected locations into multimodal mobility hubs.

The collaboration is designed to address a key gap in first- and last-mile connectivity, enabling residents and visitors to easily access destinations beyond walking distance from metro stations.

Under the plan, Parkin-managed sites will serve as entry points for Glydways’ autonomous vehicles, known as Glydcars. These compact, driverless vehicles operate on dedicated guideways—either elevated or at ground level—allowing them to bypass road traffic and provide direct, on-demand journeys.

The system supports high-frequency travel, with vehicles operating in close succession and capable of carrying four to six passengers at speeds of up to 50km/h. The technology enables seamless, non-stop trips to key destinations, reducing travel time and congestion.

The initiative builds on earlier efforts by the Roads and Transport Authority to explore automated transit solutions across the city. Proposed routes include connections between metro stations and high-traffic areas such as Bluewaters Island, Madinat Jumeirah, and Dubai Festival City.

As part of the rollout, Parkin’s mobility arm will integrate parking infrastructure with the Glydways network, allowing users to park once and complete their journey without returning to road traffic. Digital integration will also enable customers to plan, book, and manage both parking and transport through a single platform, with access to real-time availability, routes, and arrival times.

Officials say the move reflects a broader shift toward connected, sustainable transport systems aimed at reducing congestion and improving accessibility across Dubai.
