ACCA Research Highlights Rising Entrepreneurial Ambition Among Women in Finance
New research by ACCA reveals a growing entrepreneurial drive among women in the finance sector, with nearly half aspiring to start their own businesses.
Early findings from ACCA’s upcoming Global Talent Trends 2026 report show that 48% of women in finance and accountancy aim to become entrepreneurs, up from 45% last year. The study, based on responses from over 11,000 professionals across 175 countries, reflects a clear shift toward greater career confidence, independence, and leadership ambition.
Stronger Aspirations Among Younger Professionals
The trend is especially evident among Gen Z and Millennial women, with around half expressing entrepreneurial ambitions. While men still report slightly higher intent overall, the gender gap is narrowing, indicating meaningful progress in opportunity and confidence within the profession.
Kush Ahuja, Head of Eurasia and Middle East at ACCA, noted that finance and accountancy are increasingly becoming platforms for innovation and leadership, with women playing a key role in reshaping the sector’s future.
Expanding Role of Finance Professionals
The findings come as finance roles evolve beyond traditional functions. Professionals are now contributing to strategic decision-making, risk management, and long-term value creation, driven by market volatility, regulatory complexity, and rapid technological change.
This transformation is opening new pathways for leadership and entrepreneurship, positioning the profession as a strong foundation for business ownership and senior roles.
Regional Focus on Female Leadership
In the Middle East, ACCA is strengthening its commitment to advancing women in finance through targeted programmes and initiatives. These efforts focus on building skills, confidence, and leadership capabilities, particularly in areas influenced by digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
One key initiative, Women in Finance 2025, attracted more than 100 participants, reflecting growing demand for platforms that support female leadership development. The programme featured AI-driven simulations, expert discussions, and immersive learning experiences designed to prepare women for the future of finance.
Driving Long-Term Impact
ACCA emphasised that while awareness around gender equality and inclusion continues to grow, sustained action is required to convert ambition into tangible outcomes.
By combining research insights, professional development, and regional engagement, the organisation aims to help women translate their aspirations into leadership roles and entrepreneurial success, contributing to a more inclusive and future-ready finance sector.
