Dubai Customs Launches Dubai Customs : Mission and Commitment Book and Honors UAEs Culture Pioneers
In a ceremony held in Marriott Hotel Al Jaddaf in the presence of H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Chairman of the Federal National Council (FNC), H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, UAE cultural leaders, a number of Dubai senior officials and media representatives, Dubai Customs launched a Book called Dubai Customs: Mission and Commitment. The Book is introduced in an effort to provide a viable documentation of the DC past linking it with its present and as a threshold to the nearby future, highlighting the stages of development and progress while emphasizing the national, regional and international achievements. On the sidelines of the book launch ceremony, Dubai Customs honored UAE culture pioneers and leaders, in appreciation of their great role in the UAEs movement of enlightenment and culture.
The Book aims at promoting the customs culture and simplifying the information of procedures adopted by Dubai Customs in a reader-friendly discourse. It addresses customs clients, specialists, stakeholders and representatives of the commercial and consular missions who have daily duties and relations with the customs.
The Book reflects Dubai Customs activities, vital role and relation to the development and uniqueness of the Emirate of Dubai. It introduces the humble start of Dubai Customs when the value of exports were 8.7 million in 1963 and sheds the light upon the current potentials and human resources as well as the technological, administrative and legal abilities complying with the foreign trade of Dubai which amounted AED 1.3 trillion in 2013.
The Books gives an overview to the business sector, investors and traders about the customs services and procedures facilitating their course of work. It also highlights the UAE customs legislations and the wide array of Dubai Customs services and facilities to all segments of the society.
Additionally, the Book gives an overview on Dubai Customs mission and commitment assumed in its capacity as the first line of defense and the protective shield proactively deterring criminal attempts of smuggling and illicit trade into the UAE.
Since its establishment, it has been the DCs fundamental priority to safeguard the society. When reading the Book, one will get acquainted with the great efforts exerted by Dubai Customs in order to develop its procedures, to the extent that its vital role will be fully performed through utilizing the best systems and top notch technologies of inspection and in launching large scale awareness campaigns targeting all the segments of society as well as in promoting such culture and connecting it to the concepts of loyalty and nationalism.
Furthermore, the Book discusses the significant role performed by Dubai Customs in protecting international trademarks, combating illicit trading, and countering counterfeiting attempts, as well as developing the relevant customs procedures. In return, DC measures have positioned Dubai to be a destination of choice for traders and investors and leveraging Dubais foreign trade worldwide. Moreover, Dubai Customs always sought the attainment of passengers and travelers satisfaction which directly reflected upon the unprecedented increase of tourist numbers into Dubai.
In this context, H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), expressed his appreciation for the launch of the Book as it includes many important sections for the society and business sectors. Bin Sulayem said: Documenting Dubai Customs track record is very important, as it assumes a leading role in the field of security and support of economy. We want to show this outstanding image and axial role of Dubai Customs by issuing such a book which embodies the stages of great development seen in the Emirate as to the commercial movement. So, the book is a good reference for the information included thereon with respect to the history of Dubai, beginning of customs business, its stages of development and the efforts exerted by Dubai Customs to achieve its vision of being the leading customs department in the world supporting legitimate trade.
DC honors the UAEs cultural leaders during the new Book launch ceremony in token of appreciation to their great role in the modern renaissance of the country, besides their active and tangible contribution to the development and enrichment of the UAE culture. They have long supported the cultural movement in the UAE, in line with the wise leadership directives in granting culture a major priority attributed to its eminent role in nurturing thinkers and innovators alike who are the hallmark and change catalysts of developed countries. Finally, they deserve to be thanked, appreciated and honored, Bin Sulayem added.
HE Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs: This significant Book is issued in order to promote the awareness of customs issues, document the work of Dubai Customs The Mother of Government Departments which experienced several stages of development, played a vital role in anchoring the commercial movement of Dubai and maintained a steady pace with the journey of development and renaissance in Dubai and the UAE along the years. This Book provides traders and investors with information about the facilities offered by Dubai Customs.
The launch of Dubai Customs: Mission & Commitment comes at a time the UAE is celebrating a new year, full of hope and determination. At this time, the UAE seeks to add new achievements to its long history of success and excellence, which was crowned with the announcement of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of UAE, that 2015 is the Year of Innovation. The announcement motivates us to exert more effort and devise more innovative initiatives that are beneficial to our country and community, Musabih added.
The new Book is a continuation of Dubai Customs cultural journey. In 2000, Dubai Customs issued a silver plated souvenir coin to mark its one hundred anniversary. In 2011 and coinciding with the 40th UAE National Day celebrations, Dubai Customs sponsored and cooperated with Al Bayan newspaper in issuing a book titled Memories Talk, after it had already issued a picture book in 1999 that documented in pictures the stages of customs work, the role played by Dubai Creek in Dubais trade booming and the expansions it went through, Ahmed Mahboob added.
Mr. Khalil Saqer bin Gharib, Director of Corporate Communication at Dubai Customs, said: The book will be available in a digital format on the Dubai Customs website to reach as many customers and interested people as possible. We hope that the Book will reflect an obvious image about one of the oldest Government Departments in the Emirate of Dubai and clarify the great development experienced by Dubai Customs in the light of the wise leadership of the Emirate of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates through generations.
