Dubai Announces Dh1.5 Billion Upgrade for Al Fay Street with Five New Intersections

Enhancement to Boost Traffic Flow and Serve Key Residential Areas by 2028

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a Dh1.5 billion contract to develop Al Fay Street, a significant project aimed at enhancing traffic capacity and connectivity. The upgrade includes the construction of five key intersections, spanning a total of 13,500 metres of bridges and 12,900 metres of roads.

Upon completion, Al Fay Street’s capacity will increase to accommodate 64,400 vehicles per hour, significantly improving access to vital residential and developmental areas such as Dubai Sports City, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tilal Al Ghaf, DAMAC Lagoons, The Oasis, and Remraam.

According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, the project will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion by 2027 and the second by 2028.

Project Highlights:

First Intersection:
A two-lane bridge at Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection will span 1,255 metres, accommodating 3,200 vehicles per hour to ease left-turn traffic towards Al Fay Street and Emirates Road. Additionally, two bridges with two lanes each will span 2,040 metres, handling 6,400 vehicles per hour in both directions for direct traffic to and from Jumeirah Village Circle.

Second Intersection:
Located at the current roundabout between Dubai Sports City and Dubai Production City, this intersection will feature a 960-metre bridge with four lanes in each direction, facilitating 14,400 vehicles per hour along Al Fay Street. The roundabout will be converted into a signal-controlled intersection to handle increased traffic.

Third Intersection:
At Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, a three-lane bridge in each direction will span 1,400 metres, with a capacity of 9,600 vehicles per hour. An additional five-lane bridge will handle 9,000 vehicles per hour, complemented by two service roads designed to manage left-turn movements.

Fourth Intersection:
This intersection at Al Fay Street and Emirates Road will feature two two-lane bridges. One bridge, spanning 1,000 metres, will facilitate traffic turning left from Al Fay Street to Emirates Road, with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. The other bridge, 1,150 metres long, will handle left-turn traffic from Emirates Road onto Al Fay Street heading towards Deira.

Fifth Intersection:
Direct access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City will be established through two two-lane bridges spanning 2,250 metres, offering a combined capacity of 6,400 vehicles per hour.

A Leap Towards Future Mobility

The project underscores Dubai’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure to support its growing population and urban expansion. Al Tayer commented, “This initiative is integral to serving a variety of residential and developmental areas, ensuring seamless traffic flow and connectivity across the city.”

The comprehensive upgrade to Al Fay Street marks another milestone in Dubai’s vision to become a global leader in transportation and urban development.
