Coral Beach Resort Sharjah has set a new benchmark in sustainable hospitality by becoming the first hotel in the UAE to be listed as a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism.

The declaration, launched during the COP26, is a global initiative aimed at uniting the tourism sector to cut carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero before 2050.

Commitment to climate action

By joining the declaration, the resort has committed to delivering a comprehensive climate action plan within 12 months, aligned with five key pathways:

1. Measure
2. Decarbonize
3. Regenerate
4. Collaborate
5. Finance

The hotel will also report progress annually and contribute to sharing best practices across the global tourism industry.

Driving sustainable hospitality in the UAE

The recognition reinforces the resort’s leadership in environmentally responsible operations, building on its earlier accolade at the Sharjah International Travel & Tourism Forum Awards 2025 under the Sustain Sharjah category.

Its sustainability strategy is guided by six core pillars:
Climate, Waste, Culture, Water, Nature, and Education.

Innovative green initiatives

Iftikhar Hamdani highlighted that the hotel has implemented a range of practical sustainability measures, including:

1. An innovative waste management system
2. An on-site water bottling plant
3. Energy-efficient operations
4. Recycling and tree-planting partnerships

These initiatives aim to reduce the resort’s carbon footprint while promoting responsible tourism practices.

Setting a regional example

Hamdani noted that the achievement not only reflects the hotel’s commitment to sustainability but also sets a precedent for the wider UAE hospitality sector.

By aligning with global climate goals, Coral Beach Resort Sharjah seeks to inspire other tourism stakeholders to adopt measurable environmental strategies and contribute to a more sustainable future.
