Canon Revolutionizes VR Content Creation with New RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM Dual Fisheye Lens

Canon has unveiled the RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE lens, a groundbreaking addition to the EOS R System designed to democratize high-quality 3D VR content creation. This innovative APS-C lens joins the ranks alongside the RF 5.2mm F2.8L DUAL FISHEYE, promising to enhance the VR experience for both seasoned professionals and newcomers.

The RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE lens features dual fisheye lenses positioned side by side to mimic human binocular vision, capturing two distinct images that create a stereoscopic effect. This setup enhances depth perception, providing a more immersive VR experience.

Designed to be compact and affordable, the new lens retains the high optical performance of the EOS R System while making 3D VR content creation accessible to a broader audience. It boasts a 144-degree recording angle, offering a narrower field of view compared to VR180 shooting, and a large depth of field that simplifies subject focus and minimizes the need for additional equipment.

One of the standout features of the RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE is its autofocus capability, a first for Canon's 3D lenses. The One Shot Autofocus (AF) function streamlines the creation process, while the focus ring can be customized for other settings like aperture or ISO.

Additionally, the lens is the first non-L Series lens to incorporate Canon's premium Air Sphere coating, which reduces aberrations such as flare and ghosting. With two UD elements per lens, it ensures sharp, high-quality images. The f/3.5 aperture is versatile for various lighting conditions, and a rear-mounted filter holder allows for creative flexibility with screw-on and gelatin filters.

When viewed through a compatible headset, the lens's 144-degree angle and 60mm interpupillary distance deliver a natural, forward-facing view that closely mirrors human vision, providing a lifelike 3D effect.

With the VR content creation market expected to exceed $22 billion by 2025, the RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE lens is poised to make 3D content creation more accessible across diverse fields, from gaming and education to tourism and entertainment. Compatible with Canon's EOS R System, this lens ensures a seamless workflow for VR content creators.
