Wyatt Triumphs in Sardinia, Takes Lead in F1H2O Title Race as Al Qemzi Faces Misfortune

Rusty Wyatt of Sharjah Team clinched a decisive victory in the Regione Sardegna Grand Prix of Italy, propelling him to the top of the F1H2O World Championship standings. Meanwhile, Team Abu Dhabi encountered significant setbacks, with both Thani Al Qemzi and Alberto Comparato exiting the race early due to technical issues.

Wyatt's second Grand Prix win of the season came amidst a chaotic race filled with early casualties. Among the early exits were Team Abu Dhabi’s Al Qemzi and Comparato, as well as Victory Team's Erik Stark, who entered the race as the championship leader.

Al Qemzi, who had qualified second behind Wyatt, won the first of the morning sprint races, raising hopes of closing the gap on the Canadian. However, his Grand Prix was cut short on the eighth of 40 laps due to technical problems.

By that point, Estonia's Stefan Arand and Comparato had already retired from the race, followed shortly by Stark. Wyatt, the winner of the first round in Indonesia, faced no such issues and cruised to victory, finishing 12 seconds ahead of Frenchman Peter Morin, with Poland's Bartek Marszalek securing third place.

Reigning world champion Jonas Andersson from Sweden made a remarkable recovery, advancing from 14th at the start to finish fifth, behind Norway’s Marit Stromoy.

For Al Qemzi, it was a day of frustration despite his earlier show of confidence in a new boat. He had demonstrated his potential by winning the second sprint race of the morning, which had been postponed due to high winds.

The Grand Prix started with a rolling start, where Wyatt managed to fend off Al Qemzi. The race was briefly halted when Estonia’s Stefan Arand crashed. Finland’s Sami Selio also retired shortly after.

Wyatt had already secured a ten-point bonus by winning the first sprint race of the day, holding off Andersson before extending his lead for a comfortable victory.
