UAE Food Bank and Majid Al Futtaim Collaborate to Distribute Over 3,300 Meals Daily During Ramadan

Carrefour Pledges 100,000 Iftar Meals to Support UAE’s Food Security Efforts

The UAE Food Bank has partnered with Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in the UAE, to distribute over 3,300 meals daily during Ramadan. This initiative aligns with Carrefour’s commitment to ensuring food security and supports the UAE Food Bank’s 1,000 Meals programme, reinforcing a culture of giving and sustainability.

As part of this initiative, Carrefour will provide an in-kind donation of essential meat and grocery supplies required for meal preparation. To ensure efficient meal production, the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour have teamed up with Taya Art Production, a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development, reflecting Carrefour’s continued support for local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Additionally, Taya Art Production will produce a Ramadan television series highlighting the meal preparation process while promoting sustainable practices such as reducing food waste and repurposing surplus food—an objective both the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour strongly advocate.

Daily Meal Distribution and Community Support

Prepared meals will be distributed daily to workers in key locations across the UAE through coordinated efforts between the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour’s mobile Care Vans. These vans will also provide dates and water at traffic signals, bus stops, and metro stations, ensuring commuters can break their fast while on the move. Carrefour volunteers will actively participate in meal distribution efforts, furthering community engagement.

Dr. Günther Helm, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, highlighted the company’s commitment to food security and community empowerment, stating:
"Majid Al Futtaim Retail remains dedicated to initiatives that address food security and uplift the local community. Ramadan, a time of generosity and giving, has inspired us to launch our ‘Unlock the Spirit of Ramadan’ initiative. Our partnership with the UAE Food Bank is a key part of this effort, allowing us to distribute 100,000 meals to those in need.”

Dr. Helm also reaffirmed the company’s alignment with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for a united and empowered community that prioritizes collaboration and social welfare.

Strengthening Food Security and Sustainability

Manal Bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team at the UAE Food Bank, emphasized the organization’s mission to create a sustainable food system:
"At the UAE Food Bank, our goal is to redistribute surplus food efficiently, reduce waste, and strengthen food security. This collaboration with Carrefour showcases our commitment to fostering a culture of giving, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.”

She further added:
"By providing 2,000 meals daily and ensuring that food reaches those who need it most, we are reinforcing our shared vision of responsible food management and social solidarity. Through such partnerships, we continue to build a compassionate and resourceful community that values both human welfare and environmental responsibility.”

This collaboration reaffirms the ongoing partnership between Majid Al Futtaim and the UAE Food Bank, underlining their shared commitment to reducing food waste, improving food security, and making a tangible impact on communities across the UAE.
