March 18, 2026: His Excellency Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection, conducted an extensive inspection visit to a major Carrefour distribution centre in the United Arab Emirates to review food supply and procurement operations.

The minister was received by Ahmed Galal Ismail, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim, along with senior executives, as part of efforts to ensure the continued availability of essential goods across the country.

Strong Supply and Market Stability

During the visit, Bin Touq confirmed that retail outlets across the UAE remain fully stocked with a wide range of goods, supported by stable supply chains and diversified sourcing strategies.

He highlighted that the availability of multiple product alternatives contributes to price stability and consumer choice, while strengthening the country’s strategic reserves, particularly for food and medical supplies.

“Major distribution centres play a crucial role in supporting national food security and ensuring the smooth flow of goods into markets,” he said, emphasizing the UAE’s position as a regional hub for food industries and advanced logistics.

Inspection of Operations

The tour included a detailed review of key operational areas within the Carrefour facility, including:

  • Shipment receiving and quality inspection processes

  • Food safety and compliance procedures

  • Handling of fresh and essential goods

  • Inventory and storage management systems

These systems ensure the efficient and continuous supply of products to retail outlets nationwide.

Focus on Digital and Local Supply Chains

The minister also held discussions with company executives on enhancing supply chain efficiency through local partnerships, digital order processing, and improved delivery mechanisms to ensure timely access to goods for consumers.

Officials confirmed that supply and procurement operations are proceeding normally and in line with strategic plans, reflecting the UAE’s high level of preparedness and resilience.

Public-Private Collaboration

For his part, Ahmed Galal Ismail highlighted the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in maintaining market stability and strengthening the national food security ecosystem.

He noted that teams at Carrefour distribution centres continue to operate around the clock to ensure essential goods are available across all stores at stable and affordable prices.

Final Note

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism continues to monitor stock levels and supply chains on a daily basis, ensuring proactive decision-making to maintain market balance and reinforce the sustainability of the UAE’s food security system.
