UAE Emerges as Global Startup Hub as Abu Dhabi’s Median Series A Funding Surpasses Major Innovation Cities

The United Arab Emirates continues to strengthen its position as a global startup powerhouse, with new data showing that Abu Dhabi’s median Series A funding now exceeds that of established innovation hubs such as Tokyo, London, and Berlin.

Dubai-based communications consultancy Virtue PR announced the launch of a dedicated strategic communications offering designed to support startups and scaleups across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the wider UAE. The initiative aims to help emerging companies strengthen their media visibility, investor relations, and thought leadership as the region’s startup ecosystem continues to expand.

Abu Dhabi Startup Ecosystem Reaches $4.2 Billion

According to research by Startup Genome, Abu Dhabi’s startup ecosystem is now valued at $4.2 billion, marking a 7.7 percent year-on-year increase.

The data also shows that the emirate’s typical Series A funding round stands at approximately $11 million, significantly higher than the global average of $6.8 million. This figure also surpasses Series A averages in several major global startup ecosystems, including Tokyo ($2.2 million), London ($8.8 million), and Berlin ($10.2 million).

The findings highlight growing investor confidence in the UAE’s innovation-driven economy and its expanding venture capital landscape.

Strategic Communications for Startups

Firas Sleem, CEO of Virtue PR, said that while funding remains crucial for startups, effective communication and positioning are increasingly important in attracting investors and partners.

“Startups today don’t just need funding—they need narrative, positioning, and credibility,” Sleem said. “With Abu Dhabi’s median Series A round now exceeding major global hubs, it’s clear that the UAE is no longer an emerging ecosystem but a global competitor.”

He added that founders must clearly communicate their vision, purpose, and impact to stand out in a competitive innovation landscape.

UAE’s Growing Innovation Ecosystem

The announcement comes as the UAE continues to climb the rankings in the Global Startup Ecosystem, with both Abu Dhabi and Dubai attracting record venture funding across sectors such as fintech, artificial intelligence, and climate technology.

Communications firms are increasingly playing a role in helping startups convert business milestones into compelling narratives that resonate with regional and international audiences. Virtue PR’s new programme will focus on strengthening media visibility, investor communications, and thought-leadership positioning for startups operating in the region.

Sleem noted that ecosystem growth is not only measured by capital inflows but also by how effectively startups build credibility and global recognition.

“When international investors search for startups in Dubai or Abu Dhabi to fund, they should find founders who are media-ready, investment-ready, and future-ready,” he said. “Our mission is to help make that visibility a competitive advantage.”

Supporting Regional Innovation

Based in Dubai, Virtue PR provides public relations and brand communications services for startups, institutions, and global brands operating across the Middle East. The firm focuses on media relations, strategic storytelling, and cultural insight to support organizations seeking to expand their presence in the region.

As the UAE continues to attract global investors and entrepreneurs, initiatives aimed at strengthening startup communication and visibility are expected to further reinforce the country’s role as a regional center for innovation and investment.
