Sultan bin Ahmed visits Al Rahma Village in Sri Lanka
His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, visited Al Rahma Women’s Village in Puttalam, Sri Lanka, a community dedicated to widows, orphans, and their families.
During the visit, His Highness toured the village facilities and viewed an exhibition showcasing locally made products that are sold and exported to neighboring communities. He also visited training rooms where women are taught sewing skills to support their livelihood.
Support for healthcare and education
The tour included an inspection of the village’s medical center, which provides free healthcare services for women and children. His Highness also met children in the recreational garden and inaugurated 40 new houses, handing them over to widows in need.
In addition, he visited classrooms offering basic education to orphaned students, reviewing the facilities and curricula designed to instill strong values while enhancing their skills. His Highness stressed the importance of empowering youth with knowledge to become active contributors to society.
Expanding community projects
The visit concluded with a tour of the village mosque, a two-story facility serving both men and women. Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Charity International (SCI), expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his ongoing support that enables SCI to implement humanitarian projects worldwide.
Sheikh Saqr praised Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed’s presence in Sri Lanka to oversee SCI initiatives, including laying the foundation stone for Al-Reeh Al-Morsalah Village, inaugurating a mobile medical clinic, and visiting Al Rahma Women’s Village. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA), whose charity programmes have been instrumental in raising donations.
Since 2012, SCI has established six villages in Sri Lanka, comprising 195 houses, two Quran memorization centers, one school, three healthcare centers, and three artesian wells, benefitting more than 10,000 people.

His Highness was accompanied by Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of SCI; Khalid Nasser Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to Sri Lanka; Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of SBA; Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of Sharjah Government Media Bureau; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council; as well as senior officials, SBA channel directors, and representatives of charitable organisations in Sri Lanka.
