Sohar Titanium Project Nears Completion as Production Phase Begins

DUBAL Holding LLC has announced that the Sohar Titanium project in Oman has reached 90 per cent completion, marking its transition into the final phase of development and the beginning of early-stage production operations.

The project, developed in partnership with Minerals Development Oman and Austria-based Stork Group, achieved a major milestone with the commissioning of one of its three electric arc furnaces.

The development signals a shift from the construction stage to production readiness and reinforces the Gulf region’s ambitions to strengthen its position within the global titanium industry.

The companies also announced that the project completed 5.6 million man-hours without a single lost time injury (LTI), reflecting a strong operational safety record throughout the construction phase.

Ahmad Hamad Bin Fahad described the milestone as an important achievement for the partners involved, highlighting the project’s strategic significance for industrial development in both the UAE and Oman.

He said the commissioning of the first furnace and the project’s strong safety performance demonstrate the commitment, expertise, and disciplined execution of all stakeholders involved in the development.

According to DUBAL Holding, the Sohar Titanium project is expected to become a transformative industrial asset for the Gulf region by supporting economic diversification and strengthening the regional titanium value chain.

The facility spans approximately 120,000 square metres and is designed to produce 150,000 tonnes of titanium slag annually through its three-furnace configuration, with each furnace capable of producing 50,000 tonnes.

The titanium slag produced at the facility will serve as a key raw material for industries including aerospace, healthcare, automotive, construction, and manufacturing.

The project is also expected to support long-term economic growth across Oman and the UAE by improving regional processing capabilities, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and generating employment opportunities.
