Sharjah Ruler Grants Government Employee Status and Pay Benefits to Imams and Muezzins

Sharjah’s Ruler, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has announced that all imams and muezzins serving in the emirate’s mosques will now be officially recognised as government employees, granting them access to the same benefits and privileges as other civil servants.

According to the new directive, all imams and muezzins will be included under the Sharjah Government’s general staff structure, making them eligible for promotions, various allowances, comprehensive health insurance, and a Dh3,000 work nature allowance.

The announcement underscores the emirate’s commitment to improving the welfare of religious staff who play an essential role in community life and spiritual guidance.

Additionally, the periodic leave system for imams and muezzins will be revised to ensure flexibility and fairness. Those who choose not to use their leave will retain their accrued balance and, in coordination with the Department of Islamic Affairs, will be entitled to receive its cash equivalent.

This initiative reflects Sheikh Dr Sultan’s ongoing efforts to enhance living standards across Sharjah’s workforce while recognising the significant contributions of imams and muezzins to the emirate’s religious and cultural fabric.
